If a person was interested in teaching or working in special education, I think it is important to get exposed to as many things, in as many different settings; Special Olympics will expose a person to certain things, volunteer in a classroom, get involved with watching out for other kids that people have in their families. It is very hard or very difficult to find a family who doesn’t have a person with a disability. Getting to know that person better, getting to know their parents better, asking questions, being around a certain group; all of that is going to help. It helped me find out where I felt most comfortable and where I felt most needed.
