College Graduate Planning an Elementary (Multiple Subject) School Teaching Career

If you have already earned your bachelor's degree, you will need to complete all the teacher preparation requirements for a multiple subject credential. Several program types exist, including post-baccalaureate and internship programs. Each option has different requirements. There is information on this site to help you find the right program.

Unchecked check box Verify knowledge of the subject to be taught by completing the required test or coursework, or a combination of the two. Learn more!
Unchecked check box Complete a Developing English Language Skills, including Reading course that is research-based and includes the study of phonemic awareness, spelling patterns, early intervention techniques, ongoing diagnostic techniques, and a strong literature, language, and comprehension component.
Unchecked check box Pass the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA).
Unchecked check box Pass a course (at least two semester units) on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution. **OR** Pass an examination on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution at a regionally accredited community college, college, or university.
Unchecked check box Complete computer education coursework that includes general and specialized skills in the use of computers in education settings.
Unchecked check box Complete a California multiple subject teacher preparation program including successful student teaching, and obtain the formal recommendation for the credential by the California college or university where the program was completed.
