Meet the basic skills requirement.

|
Complete a Developing English Language Skills, including Reading course that is research-based and includes the study of phonemic awareness, spelling patterns, early intervention techniques, ongoing diagnostic techniques, and a strong literature, language, and comprehension component.

Pass a course (at least two semester units) on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution.
**OR**
Pass an examination on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution at a regionally accredited community college, college, or university.

Verify subject-matter competence by one of the following methods:
Receive a passing score on the appropriate California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) subject-matter examination(s).
**OR**
Complete a Commission-approved subject-matter program or its equivalent and obtain verification of completion from the authorized person in the education department of a California college or university with an accredited program.

Complete computer education coursework that includes general and specialized skills in the use of computers in education settings.
|
|
Complete a professional preparation program in secondary education, including successful student teaching, and obtain the formal recommendation for the credential by the California college or university where the program was completed.
