What advice would you give a first-year high school teacher?
Read Harry Wong’s The First Day of School, from cover to cover, and actually implement those things into your first day of school. Your whole year will be dictated, basically, by the first day of school, the first hour, the first seconds. As soon as you-as soon as the kids-walk through the door, your day is started even if the class has not started. Because they basically judge you right then and there. And you really have to have all of your procedures done…and all those things. It’s really important that you read that book; it is a really good book.
