A teacher has a lot of competing demands on their time and it’s difficult. You have to learn to say no to a few things. I’ve been asked to be a chaperone four times this last week for different things and you’ve got to have some time for yourself. The preparation time, the time that it takes to create new things is what I want to emphasize with my time. So any time they ask me, extra meetings, I try to avoid those extra duties outside of school time; I try to avoid those, not because I dislike them. It’s that I know that the most important part of my job is preparing and delivering my class and anything that is a distraction from that is somewhat of a waste. I think the main thing I should be concentrating on is the teaching of my class.
