In terms of what would be the biggest challenge as a high school teacher, probably most teachers would say that getting their students to perform to 100% of their ability. A lot of kids will not do their best all the time and you have to find different ways to try to motivate them. I am not going to pretend that I am perfect at motivating every single student I come across but there’s a variety of different schemes that you learn as you go through the years that help you try to get the best out of each student. Different teachers can do this in different ways. Some teachers are just entertainers; they just know how to entertain a class. I don’t think that would necessarily be considered my strength though. I think what I would do best to try to motivate the kids is to make sure I am well prepared, that I present to them an experience, particularly in the science lab, that’s motivating. I am not going to downplay the idea that it needs to be somewhat fun too, but hopefully they’re learning while it’s fun in the lab also.
