For Special Education

To teach Special Education in California, you must have the Education Specialist Instruction Credential. It authorizes the holder to teach in the area of specialization listed on the credential in the following settings: special day classes, special schools, home/hospital settings, correctional facilities, nonpublic schools and agencies, and resource rooms. School districts may also look for other related qualifications and experience (service learning, substitute teaching new browser window icon, or volunteering).

If you have a BA/BS degree and have met the basic skills new browser window icon requirement, you may be eligible for an internship program while you complete the coursework necessary for a credential.
