Distinguished Teacher Scott Holloway

What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?

Expect the unexpected. Plan an extra ten minutes every day and script out your lecture, demos, analogies and stories. Talk to your students and not at them. Your students will be amazed at how you are always prepared and ready for all the normal obstacles that occur daily. And when things don't go as planned, go with it. There are teachable moments everywhere. Students love the lessons that are "off topic."

What's the best thing about teaching?

Watching a student find the joy in learning. When a child gets truly excited and inspired about the subject matter, nothing else can compare.
